White House urged to "shut up" Musk over frequent, ambiguous interviews - NBC News

Officials and politicians close to US President Donald Trump are demanding that the White House reduce the number of interviews given by billionaire and head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Elon Musk or make them more scripted.

NBC News reported this, citing unnamed Trump advisers.

One of the NBC News interlocutors said that there is "external concern" about the comments Musk makes in interviews.

According to him, those close to Trump have conveyed to the White House and even directly to the President that Musk should either be removed from the air or his interviews should be made more scripted. These are representatives of Wall Street, the corporate sector and the US Congress.

The reason for the complaints against Musk was his recent interview in which he said that the government intends to cut the Social Security program.

His comments contradict Trump, who has previously said the administration will not touch the program unless it is made more effective.

Such inconsistencies are worrying both among Trump allies and members of his own party, as they could make such comments unsettling to older Americans.

“Of course, they don’t want their Social Security to be cut. So if they hear on the news that Elon Musk is saying we should do something about Social Security, of course there might be some concern,” one of the people told NBC News.

Blueprint conducted a study of 20 different political messages about Musk, and the four that generated the most interest among registered voters were about Social Security.

The first two messages were about Musk’s proposals to lay off Social Security employees and eliminate phone services.

Political experts close to the White House say that, despite Musk's rhetoric and closeness to the president, Trump remains sensitive to the political risk associated with touching the Social Security program.

"Even apart from the President, the White House itself has made it extremely clear that it is not going to touch Social Security," said one of the former White House staffers.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the British publication the Mirror previously wrote that large-scale cuts in the US government carried out by Musk's team led to the suspension of a program to track Ukrainian children abducted by the aggressor country of russia.

As we will recall, not so long ago Musk said that without his Starlink satellite communication system, Ukrainian defense would collapse very quickly.

Later, after a flurry of criticism against him, Musk said that his words about Ukraine and Starlink were allegedly misunderstood.
