Zelenskyy explains why UN peacekeepers will not be able to replace European military

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that the United Nations peacekeeping mission will not be able to protect Ukraine from a possible repeated attack by the aggressor country russia.

Zelenskyy said this at a joint press conference with Czech President Petr Pavel, his words are quoted by RBC-Ukraine.

According to him, the UN peacekeeping mission will not be able to become an alternative to the deployment of European troops on the territory of Ukraine.

"Because the UN will not have any mandate to defend Ukraine if Putin comes to us with war again," Zelenskyy said.

The President emphasized that it remains unknown whether the contingent of European countries that will be deployed within the peacekeeping mission will have a similar mandate.

"But, of course, when there are troops, there are air defense and ships, there are planes and there is a serious army <...> to go against such infrastructure is very dangerous for the Russians," the head of state added.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on March 20, Bloomberg reported, citing sources, that the European forces in Ukraine would include not only ground troops, but also aviation and the navy.

And on March 19, The i Paper reported that British special forces had been instructed to begin preparations for deployment to Ukraine.
