British special forces instructed to prepare for deployment to Ukraine - media

Units of British special forces have been instructed to begin preparations for a possible deployment to Ukraine as part of a European peacekeeping mission.

The British publication The i Paper reported this, citing its own sources.

Two unnamed sources told the publication that the Cabinet of Ministers had instructed the special forces to be ready to deploy to Ukraine.

They did not specify which units were involved.

According to the publication, last week the Permanent Joint Headquarters (PJHQ) received directives to begin the process of deploying personnel and equipment.

The orders, which also apply to special forces reservists, put personnel on standby to ensure that military equipment is operational before receiving notification of a deployment to Ukraine.

Military experts interviewed by the publication noted that although the British special forces are not a traditional peacekeeping unit, their ability to quickly deploy and experience in the field of intelligence make them an "ideal tool" for such missions.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in late February this year, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer asked US President Donald Trump to support the European peacekeeping mission in Ukraine with equipment, intelligence and, if necessary, aviation.

As a reminder, Bloomberg earlier wrote, citing its own sources, that Turkey had expressed a desire to send troops to Ukraine.

We also wrote that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy named European countries that "positively" view the idea of sending peacekeepers to Ukraine.
