Norwegian defense company NAMMO intends to expand cooperation with Ukraine in the production of ammunition.
This was announced by the Minister for Strategic Industries Herman Smetanin on the Telegram channel, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"Today, in the Norwegian city of Raufoss, NAMMO and one of the leading enterprises of the Ukrainian defense industry signed a joint statement on strategic cooperation to expand existing cooperation. The partnership is based on successful cooperation in the field of transferring technologies for the production of 155-mm artillery ammunition to Ukraine, which is carried out with the bilateral support of the governments of Norway and Ukraine. This cooperation will contribute to ensuring Ukraine's needs in sovereign and national ammunition production," he said.
Smetanin noted that NAMMO is one of the largest ammunition manufacturers in Europe.
The Minister added that last year, Ukraine launched mass production of 155 mm caliber ammunition, which is currently the main artillery caliber of the Ukrainian army and NATO member states. Smetanin noted that the domestic defense industry should increase their production.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in March 2023, the Cabinet of Ministers instructed to establish the production of 120 mm mortar shells, 155 mm caliber ammunition, and ammunition for unmanned aerial vehicles, and in September 2024, Ukraine began its own production of 155 mm caliber artillery shells.
