President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced talks between Ukrainian and US delegations on Monday, March 24, in Saudi Arabia. Zelenskyy said this during a joint press conference with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre following the talks in Oslo, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
Zelenskyy noted that after the Americans' contact with the russians, a step back was taken, because they started talking about a partial ceasefire, not a full one.
"We are ready to take better steps forward, but we are ready to take a step back now in partnership with the Americans and talk about a partial ceasefire," he said.
Zelenskyy said that following his conversation with US President Donald Trump on March 19, they agreed on a ceasefire regarding the security of the energy systems of both countries, that is, without any attacks on energy infrastructure, as well as other civilian infrastructure.
He informed Trump that the Ukrainian side would prepare facilities that, in Ukraine's opinion, are civilian infrastructure.
"I don't want there to be different understandings of what the parties will agree on, or let's say, God willing, the parties will agree on at the next meeting, which will be on Monday in Saudi Arabia. There will be our technical teams. As I understand it, the structure is such that there will be a meeting between Ukraine and America, and then, as American partners said, shuttle diplomacy, and then America with russia, or it will be parallel such meetings in one country on one topic," he said.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on March 19, Trump in a telephone conversation informed Zelenskyy of the details of his conversation on March 18 with the leader of the aggressor country, vladimir putin, and noted that the cessation of strikes on energy and other civilian infrastructure facilities could be the first step towards a complete end to the war and the establishment of security. Zelenskyy supported this step, and Ukraine confirmed its readiness to implement it.
The Kremlin announced that on Monday, March 24, consultations between US and russian experts will be held in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) mainly to work out the prospects for the possible implementation of an initiative on shipping safety in the Black Sea.
