The first Prime Minister of Ukraine, Vitold Fokin, has died at the age of 92. His granddaughter, singer Maria Fokina, announced this on Facebook on Thursday, March 20.
"Grandpa," the singer signed the publication with an image of a broken heart.

From open sources it is known that Fokin was the last Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR and the first Prime Minister of independent Ukraine.
Vitold Fokin was born on October 25, 1932 in the village of Novomykolayivka of the Donetsk Region. From working in a mine, he rose to leadership positions in the coal industry. On November 14, 1990, he was appointed Acting Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR. On April 18, 1991, Fokin became Prime Minister of the Ukrainian SSR.
From August 24, 1991 to 1992, Fokin served as Prime Minister of independent Ukraine. In September 1992, he resigned, and Leonid Kuchma took his place.
Vitold Fokin participated in the signing of the Belavezha Accords on the collapse of the USSR and the formation of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). The politician also created the first money of independent Ukraine, coupons.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on August 18, 2020, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appointed former Prime Minister of Ukraine (1991-1992) Vitold Fokin as First Deputy Head of the Ukrainian Delegation to the Trilateral Contact Group (TCG) on the Settlement of the Situation in Donbas.
