GDP up 1.1% since year start - Economy Ministry

In February 2025, Ukraine's GDP grew by 0.7%, and according to the results of the first two months of the year - by 1.1%.

This is stated in the message of the Ministry of Economy, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The somewhat lower start of the year is a reflection of the uneven growth trends of the past year.

"At the same time, we are currently even slightly above our forecast for the 1st quarter. The main growth factors remain the construction industry, the processing industry and domestic trade," the press service quotes the words of First Deputy Minister of Economy Oleksii Sobolev.

The slowdown in economic growth in February occurred due to missile attacks on gas production facilities and a temporary decrease in the activity of exporters.

At the same time, high budget funding for the restoration of damaged critical infrastructure, housing construction under the eRecovery and eHousing programs, as well as the purchase of domestic products by the defense industry sector compensated for these negative factors.

GDP growth in February 2025 also occurred due to a revival in domestic (retail) trade.

Consumer sentiment continued to improve in February - this trend has been observed for the fourth month in a row.

Business recovery and support programs contribute to the development of the processing industry, in particular, thanks to international financial assistance.

The production of building materials, mechanical engineering products, and the food industry is demonstrating positive dynamics.

In the defense industry sector, production capacities are increasing against the background of expanding defense orders.

Metallurgy is also becoming more active - the production of cast iron, steel, and rolled products is increasing.

At the same time, in agriculture, a decrease in the production of livestock products is observed due to an increase in the cost of its production.

A decline in the extractive industry was also recorded due to missile attacks on gas production infrastructure and a decline in transport due to a temporary decrease in exporters' activity.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in January 2025, GDP growth is estimated at 1.5%.

Last year, growth was uneven - 6.5% in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the first quarter of 2023, in the second quarter - 3.7%, in the third quarter - 2.0%.
