GDP grows by 1.5% in January: economic growth supported by construction, industry and trade

In January 2025, the Ukrainian economy grew by 1.5%.

The Ministry of Economy has said this in a statement, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

The drivers of growth remain the construction industry, the processing industry, as well as domestic trade.

The slowdown in economic growth in January occurred due to a decrease in the activity of exporters.

However, high budget financing compensated for a temporary drop in the volume of exports of goods.

The key factors of growth were the restoration of damaged critical infrastructure, major reconstruction and repair of roads in emergency areas, and housing construction.

Purchases of domestic products by the defense industry sector also remained high, which in turn stimulated an increase in production in mechanical engineering.

GDP growth in January 2025 is estimated at 1.5%.

The processing industry, domestic trade and construction continued to demonstrate positive dynamics.

At the same time, in agriculture, there is a decrease in the production of livestock products due to an increase in the cost of its production.

A decline was also recorded in the mining industry and in transport.

The reasons are the suspension of the operation of mines in the Donetsk Region, which are located on the contact line.

There were also disruptions in the supply of electricity due to massive missile attacks.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in December 2024, GDP growth is estimated at 1.7%.

The GDP growth forecast included in the 2025 budget is 2.7% per year.
