France and Canada will demand from russia "clear commitments" on Ukraine – Macron at meeting with Carney

France and Canada will demand from the aggressor country russia clear commitments on peace in Ukraine. This concerns security guarantees not only for Ukraine, but also for Europe.

According to BFM TV, French President Emmanuel Macron said this at a meeting with the new Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

At a joint press conference at the Élysée Palace, Macron said that Paris and Ottawa will continue to demand from russia on peace in Ukraine.

"The goal of this joint commitment, together with the Ukrainians, has always been to achieve a strong and lasting peace, with reliable security guarantees," Macron said.

He added that these security guarantees should protect Ukraine from new russian aggression and ensure peace on the continent.

The head of the Canadian government said that Ottawa wants to strengthen its ties with "reliable allies" such as France.

"Canada will always be there to ensure the security and commercial ties of Europe," Carney noted.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on March 5, during an address to the nation, Emmanuel Macron stated that peace in Ukraine should not become its capitulation to russia.
