Zelenskyy instructs new Chief of General Staff, Hnatov, to accelerate formation of corps system in Armed Forces of Ukraine

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has instructed the new Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Andrii Hnatov, to accelerate the formation of the corps system in the Defense Forces and conduct an audit of the needs of combat brigades. Zelenskyy reported this on the Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

Zelenskyy, in particular, said that at a meeting with Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and the new Chief of the General Staff, Hnatov, they discussed the situation on the front and in cooperation with partners regarding security guarantees for Ukraine. Based on the results of the meeting, Zelenskyy identified the tasks.

"The Chief of the General Staff is to accelerate the formation of the corps system in our Defense Forces and conduct an audit of the current needs of combat brigades. We need maximum support for the brigades to ensure the stability of our positions both at the front and in diplomatic work," he said.

Zelenskyy stressed that strengthening the army is an unchanging priority, and there can be no steps back in this matter, the Defense and Security Forces, the defense-industrial complex and multi-level interaction with partners are the basis of Ukraine's independence.

Zelenskyy instructed Umerov to immediately form a team that will deal with interaction with partners on all details of the security system necessary for Ukraine and the implementation of decisions made at the military-political level. This week, the formed team is to take part in the work in London – in a meeting of military representatives.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on March 16, Zelenskyy appointed Hnatov as the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine instead of Anatolii Barhylevych.
