Ukrainians in Poland pay 5 times more in taxes than they receive in social benefits

According to the Polish Bank of National Economy (BGK), Ukrainian migrants have added PLN 15.21 billion to the Polish state budget. At the same time, PLN 2.8 billion was spent on social benefits under the “800 Plus” program for children of refugees who fled the war, BGK experts calculated.

Ukrainians make up about 5% of the entire Polish workforce. Most of them work in industry, construction, the transport sector and the service sector.

According to the BGK report, Ukrainian migrants contributed to the growth of Poland’s GDP by 0.5-2.4% each year, which underlines their significant contribution to the country’s economy.

It is also noted that Ukrainians pay more in taxes and social contributions than they receive in benefits. Despite the fact that many of them perform work that does not correspond to their qualifications, their presence is an important factor in the stability of the Polish labor market. This is especially relevant in the context of an aging population and labor shortage.

BGK experts concluded that Ukrainians do not have a significant impact on the growth of real estate prices. The main factors for this are inflation and changes in the credit market.

In the future, experts recommend that Poland focus on the long-term integration of migrants, in particular, providing them with stable work, housing, access to education and vocational training. It is expected that in the future the country will need even more migrants than now to meet the demand for labor.

Recall that the European Union has calculated the number of Ukrainian refugees. Most of them are in Germany and Poland.

Meanwhile, 40% of Ukrainian refugees are considering returning to Ukraine after the war.
