EU calculates number of Ukrainian refugees. Most of them in Germany and Poland

About 4.3 million Ukrainian citizens had temporary protection status in the countries of the European Union as of the end of January 2025. The largest number of Ukrainian refugees is in Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic.

This is evidenced by information from the statistical office of the European Union.

It is noted that Ukrainian citizens account for 98.4% of the total number of temporary protection statuses granted. These are citizens of other countries, for example, Syria.

The largest number of holders of temporary protection status among Ukrainian citizens is in Germany (1.17 million people, or 27.3% of the total number). This is followed by Poland (993,000 people or 23.2%) and the Czech Republic (394,000 people or 9.2%).

Adult women among holders of temporary protection status are 44.8%. The next category in terms of status is children - 31.8%. Adult Ukrainian males received 23.4% of temporary protection statuses.

The European Union published an infographic showing how many Ukrainians with temporary protection status are in a specific country in the bloc.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on March 6, Politico wrote that the European Union countries are expecting a new wave of Ukrainian refugees if the US does not resume military aid to Ukraine and this leads to an escalation on the front line.

Recall that the day before, the US authorities called media information that Washington was allegedly preparing to cancel the temporary status for Ukrainian refugees fake.
