The situation on the border of the Sumy Region with the Kursk Oblast of russia is under the control of the Defense Forces of Ukraine, currently there is no threat of encirclement of the Armed Forces of Ukraine units in the Kursk Oblast.
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi announced this on Facebook, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
Syrskyi reported that he is currently working in the operational zone of the Kursk group of forces.
"The situation on the border of the Sumy Region with the Kursk Oblast of the Russian Federation is under the control of the Defense Forces of Ukraine. A number of settlements on the border line, the names of which appear in the reports of Russian propagandists, no longer actually exist - they have been destroyed by the fire of the aggressor. Despite the involvement of a significant number of Russian troops, reinforced by North Korean infantry, in the offensive, the enemy is suffering significant losses in manpower and equipment. In the area of Plyokhovo alone, the enemy has actually lost an infantry battalion in four days of fighting," he said.
Syrskyi said that individual sabotage and reconnaissance groups and small infantry groups of the enemy, trying to penetrate the territory of Ukraine, are being destroyed by the firepower of the Ukrainian troops thanks to the defense system created in advance.
"I made a decision on the spot to strengthen our group with the necessary forces and means, in particular electronic warfare and an unmanned component. Currently, there is no threat of encirclement of our units in the Kursk Oblast. The units are taking timely measures to maneuver to advantageous defense lines," the Commander-in-Chief said.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on March 9, analysts from the Ukrainian DeepState project reported that the army of the aggressor country russia had allegedly regained control over three settlements in the Kursk Oblast, which had been under the control of the Defense Forces of Ukraine since August 2024.
On March 8, the Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council reported that no mass breach of the border by russian troops in the Sumy Region had been recorded.
Time reported that the US decision to suspend the transfer of military intelligence to Ukraine helped russia advance along a critical part of the front, leading to the deaths of many Ukrainian soldiers in recent days. The publication writes that this has had the most severe impact on Ukrainians in the Kursk Oblast, where the Armed Forces are trying to hold onto a strip of territory they captured during an offensive last August.
