White House wants to revoke temporary legal status for 240,00 Ukrainian refugees, — media

The administration of US President Donald Trump is considering the possibility of revoking temporary legal status for some 240,000 Ukrainian refugees. If this happens, the refugees will be deported.

Reuters reported this with reference to its sources.

The US is currently working on depriving the legal status of 1.8 million migrants who received legal status during the presidency of Joe Biden under temporary humanitarian programs.

It is expected that the decision to deprive the legal status of Ukrainians may be made as early as April.

At the moment, the US Department of Homeland Security does not know anything about such plans.

Starting from January 2025, Ukrainians will no longer be accepted for asylum under the Uniting for Ukraine program. The program allowed them to live legally in the US for two years, work, study and receive medical treatment.

Recall, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order closing the southern border of the United States to illegal immigrants.
