U.S. President Donald Trump delivered his first address to Congress since his inauguration. In particular, he once again emphasized that the "golden age of America" had begun. He also did not bypass the topic of Ukraine, stating that he had received a letter from Volodymyr Zelenskyy, which stated that Ukraine was ready for peace talks and agreed to sign an agreement on minerals.
At the beginning of his speech, Trump solemnly declared: "America is back!". He recalled that six weeks ago he stood under the dome of the Capitol and proclaimed the beginning of the "golden age of America". Since that moment, according to Trump, his administration has acted quickly and relentlessly to lay the foundation for the most successful era in U.S. history. "We have accomplished more in 43 days than most administrations accomplish in four years or eight years — and we are just getting started," the U.S. leader said.
Trump also announced that he had canceled green energy programs and environmental initiatives that were launched by previous President Joseph Biden, calling them a "green new scam."
In addition, the U.S. leader spoke about the cancellation of diversity programs in the country. "We’ve ended the tyranny of so-called diversity, equity and inclusion policies all across the entire federal government. And indeed the private sector and our military," Trump said.
Among other things, Trump promised to return control over prices in the U.S., spoke about the possible construction of a large gas pipeline in Alaska, announced a "historic action" to expand the extraction of critical materials and rare earth metals in the U.S., and announced the upcoming launch of a "gold card" for obtaining American citizenship for USD 5 million.
Separately, Trump noted Elon Musk and the achievements of his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). "The Government Accountability Office, the federal government office, has estimated annual fraud of over $500 billion in our nation. And we are working very hard to stop it," Trump said. He also announced his intention to " lead humanity into space and plant the American flag on the planet Mars and even far beyond."
At the same time, Trump said that on April 2 he would announce the introduction of reciprocal tariffs that would match trade barriers in other countries. In addition, he called on Congress to pass tax cuts and announced that he would sign an executive order imposing the death penalty for the murder of a police officer.
In his speech, Trump also said that his administration " will be reclaiming the Panama Canal, and we’ve already started doing it," and also noted that the United States will "one way or the other" get Greenland.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that he had instructed the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, intelligence chiefs, and diplomats to contact their American counterparts and obtain full information about assistance from the United States.
