U.S. President Donald Trump told Congress that he had received an official letter from Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy, which states that Ukraine is ready to negotiate peace, as well as agree to sign an agreement on minerals.
CNN has reported this with reference to the broadcast of Trump's speech.
Referring to the war in Ukraine, the U.S. President noted that 2,000 people are dying every week - both Ukrainians and russians.
"Do you want this to last another 5 years?" Trump asked those present.
"Earlier today, I received an important letter from Ukrainian President Zelenskyy. The letter says: " Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible to bring lasting peace closer. Nobody wants peace more than Ukrainians. My team and I stand ready to work under President Trump’s strong leadership to get a peace that lasts," Trump quoted the letter from the Ukrainian President as saying.
He also noted that the Ukrainian President allegedly stated: "My team and I stand ready to work under President Trump’s strong leadership to get a peace that lasts."
In addition, according to Trump, the document contains the following passage:
"We do really value how much America has done to help Ukraine maintain its sovereignty and independence. Regarding the agreement on minerals and security, Ukraine is ready to sign it in any time and in any convenient format."
The U.S. President expressed gratitude for this letter and added that "serious discussions with Russia" were being held in parallel, which, according to him, gave "strong signals that they are ready for peace."
" Regarding the agreement on minerals and security, Ukraine is ready to sign it in any time and in any convenient format. "I appreciate that he (Zelenskyy) sent this letter," Trump said.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on March 4, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine is ready for peace talks.
Zelenskyy also will not apologize to U.S. President Donald Trump, as he "did not offend anyone" and considers his visit to the White House "a sign of respect."
