Rada did not appeal to Trump, only its leadership did it

The Verkhovna Rada did not appeal to US President Donald Trump, the appeal came from the leadership of the Ukrainian parliament.

This is evidenced by data on the decisions adopted by the Verkhovna Rada, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

Yesterday evening, an appeal was published on the Verkhovna Rada's website to President Donald Trump, the US Congress and the American people.

"On behalf of the Ukrainian people, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expresses deep gratitude to President Donald Trump, the Congress of the United States of America and the American people for their firm and consistent support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as for the security assistance packages provided to Ukraine, which contributed to the stabilization of the situation on the front line," the statement itself says.

After that, the head of the Verkhovna Rada's Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy, Mykyta Poturaiev, denied that the Verkhovna Rada had appealed to US President Donald Trump.

"I would like to draw the attention of media representatives: the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine did NOT address anyone in Washington or anywhere in the USA. Please do not mislead the public," he wrote on his Facebook page.

According to Article 138 of the Rules of Procedure of the Verkhovna Rada, resolutions and other acts (including appeals and statements) of the Verkhovna Rada are adopted by a majority vote of MPs from its constitutional composition.

Data on the parliament's website indicate that no corresponding decision was adopted at the Verkhovna Rada meeting.

The statement published yesterday indicates that it is from the "leadership of the Ukrainian parliament - the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, parliamentary factions and groups", that is, not from the institution itself, which requires an appropriate vote in the session hall.

The fact that this is a statement from the leadership was confirmed by the co-chair of the European Solidarity faction, Iryna Herashchenko.

"As the co-chair of the EU faction, I joined the statement of the Verkhovna Rada leadership to the US Congress, in which we thank you for your help and call for continued support for Ukraine," she wrote in her Telegram channel.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine published an appeal to the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, in which it welcomed his initiatives to start a negotiation process for peace.
