Completion of units at Khmelnytskyi NPP will allow avoiding tariff increases for population - MP Zhupanyn

Andrii Zhupanyn, a member of the Verkhovna Rada from the Servant of the People faction, deputy chairman of the parliamentary committee on energy and housing and communal services, believes that the completion of two power units at the Khmelnytskyi NPP will allow avoiding tariff increases for the population.

He said this in an interview with the Ukrainian News Agency.

"It seems to me that it will be possible to say unequivocally that tariffs for the population are unlikely to increase. If we talk about the energy mix from the point of view of the state and price formation for the population, then the construction of nuclear power units initially requires large capital investments, but then in the process of using nuclear energy requires relatively small funds for operational work," said the MP.

According to him, the state makes a large one-time investment in the construction of new units at Khmelnytskyi NPP, and then due to this it will be possible not to revise the tariff for the population.

"I don't know if a tariff reduction is possible, but with new power units we will definitely be able to keep the price for the population at an adequate level," Zhupanyn added.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Ministry of Energy and the Energoatom national nuclear energy generating company do not plan to contact the russians to service the new units at the Khmelnytskyi NPP, which will be built on the basis of Rosatom reactors.
