NASAMS air defense manufacturer to open plant in Ukraine to increase missile production - company’s president

Norwegian defense company Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace, manufacturer of NASAMS air defense systems, is in talks to establish a joint venture in Ukraine to increase missile production.

This was stated by the company's president, Erik Lee, to Euractiv.

Erik Lee noted that his company wants to use the strength of Ukrainian industry to increase production. According to him, negotiations are currently underway to establish a joint venture in Ukraine.

"We are in close talks with Ukrainian industry to establish a joint venture. The primary objective is to increase the production of missiles for our air defense system in Ukraine using Ukrainian technology. We are talking about mass production of missiles, that is, hundreds," the company president said.

The joint venture is going to be established within a few months, Erik Lee said. In the long term, after the war, Ukraine may become part of the supply chain of missiles for air defense systems, the company president emphasized.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on January 16, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported that Ukraine and the Norwegian defense company Kongsberg plan to integrate Ukrainian air defense systems into the NASAMS system.

On November 22, Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair announced that American-made NASAMS air defense systems had been delivered to Ukraine.

Earlier, Canada planned to transfer the modern NASAMS medium-range air defense system to Ukraine in early 2025.
