U.S. President Donald Trump has confirmed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will visit the White House on Friday, February 28, to sign a mineral agreement. His words are quoted by the BBC on Wednesday, February 26.
Trump confirmed the time of the meeting with Zelenskyy in the opening remarks of his first cabinet meeting. According to him, the Ukrainian President will visit the White House on Friday.
"The US and Ukraine will sign a very big agreement," said Trump.
The U.S. President called it "a very important thing and a great achievement" and promised journalists in the hall that his team would inform them about the progress.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on February 26, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that the mineral agreement between Ukraine and the U.S. was prepared and directly tied to security guarantees for Ukraine.
On February 26, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine and the United States were "very close" to signing a minerals agreement.
On February 23, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that as part of the agreement on United States access to Ukrainian rare earth minerals, the United States would not become the owner of physical assets in Ukraine.
