Rada refuses to summon Svyrydenko regarding agreement with US on Ukrainian minerals

The Verkhovna Rada has refused to summon First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Economy Yuliia Svyrydenko regarding the agreement between Ukraine and the U.S. on rare earth metals.

Oleksii Honcharenko, a Member of Parliament from the European Solidarity faction, announced this on his Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

93 parliamentarians voted for the relevant decision, out of the minimum required 226.

Accordingly, there were not enough votes to summon the Deputy Prime Minister.

According to Honcharenko, Svyrydenko was supposed to explain the situation with the agreement on rare earth metals.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the agreement between Ukraine and the U.S. on rare earth metals may have different forms, which is why the need for its ratification may vary.

Head of the Presidential Office Andrii Yermak reported that the agreement with the U.S. on Ukrainian minerals is in a normal working process, it could last months.

On February 19, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, regarding the draft agreement on Ukrainian rare earth minerals, which was transferred to Ukraine by the U.S. and which he refused to sign, noted that the document was clear only in that Ukraine must give 50% of what is listed in the document. Zelenskyy also stated that the agreement on Ukrainian rare earth minerals should contain security guarantees from the U.S.
