Lithuania proposes fixing Ukraine's accession to EU on January 1, 2030

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda has taken the initiative to fix January 1, 2030 as the date of Ukraine's accession to the European Union.

He stated this in Kyiv during the plenary session of the Support Ukraine forum, European Pravda reports.

"The security of Europe depends on the security of Ukraine. That is why let us accelerate Ukraine's accession to the EU. I propose the date of January 1, 2030," Nauseda said.

He also emphasized that now is the time for decisive action, and European countries must assume responsibility without delay.

The Lithuanian President noted that the opening of the first cluster of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU could take place in the coming weeks.

"Let's make Ukraine's path to the EU inevitable," Nauseda urged.

Recall that in June 2024, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, congratulated Ukraine and Moldova on the official start of negotiations on accession to the European Union.

The European Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement believes that Ukraine can join the European Union in five years if it carries out reforms.
