2025 should be the year of the beginning of a real, reliable peace.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this at the Support Ukraine summit with the participation of leaders of partner countries and the leadership of the European Union in Kyiv, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"This year should be the year of the beginning of a real, reliable peace. Putin will not give us this peace as a gift. He will not give it in exchange for something. We must achieve peace through strength, wisdom, unity, and our cooperation with you. Peace cannot be simply declared in one hour, it cannot be declared in one day today, tomorrow, the day after tomorrow. Unfortunately, this is the reality," he said.
Zelenskyy reported that when the US President's Special Envoy to Ukraine and russia, Keith Kellogg, was in Ukraine, he gave him and US President Donald Trump a list of all Ukraine-russia ceasefire agreements with specific dates that russia violated.
"Therefore, peace can be the result of balanced diplomacy and absolutely clear security guarantees," Zelenskyy stressed.
He also stressed that the war continues against Ukraine, and therefore Ukraine must be at the negotiating table together with Europe.
"Russia's strategic target is precisely Europe, the European way of life, and therefore its security and the fate of Europe cannot be determined without Europe. Ukraine, Europe, together with America, we must be at the negotiating table opposite russia so that the need for peace is not once again talked about with promises of normalization, reset, or reconciliation," the President said.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on February 23, US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff said that the US is "very close" to reaching a peace agreement between russia and Ukraine. According to him, each side must make concessions in order to reach a peace agreement, these could be economic or territorial compromises.
