The United Kingdom may deploy a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine with a number of 10,000 to 15,000 soldiers in case of reaching agreements on a ceasefire between Kyiv and moscow.
This is stated in an article by Bohdan Popov, an expert of the United Ukraine analytical center, which he wrote for the Ukrainian News agency.
According to the expert, Britain can act both independently and lead a multinational coalition, involving soldiers from Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands and France.
The basis of the British contingent may be the 16th Air Assault Brigade and the 3rd Commando Brigade of the Royal Marines, reinforced by mechanized units with Challenger 2 tanks. A special role will be played by engineering troops, which will be engaged in the demining of territories.
"For Ukraine, such a British presence would be not only a military but also a psychological factor that would prevent the return of Russian forces or attempts at destabilization," the expert notes.
According to him, the annual costs of such an operation could reach gbpn 2-3 billion. Popov emphasizes that the implementation of such a scenario is possible only if russia is forced to agree to the introduction of external forces.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the number of foreign peacekeepers in Ukraine should depend on the size of the Ukrainian army. At the same time, he denied that he said that Ukraine needed 200,000 peacekeepers.
