France does not understand why Trump accuses Ukraine of war - government spokeswoman

France does not understand why US President Donald Trump suggested that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was to blame for russia's invasion of his country, French government spokeswoman Sophie Primas said, Reuters reports.

"We do not understand the logic very well," Primas told reporters, describing "the varied and often incomprehensible comments of President Trump."

She said Trump has made a series of comments about Ukraine in recent days without consulting his European allies.

French President Emmanuel Macron is set to hold an informal meeting on Ukraine with some European leaders and NATO ally Canada on Friday, following a similar meeting with Britain, Italy, Germany, Spain, the EU, Denmark and the Netherlands on February 17.

As the publication notes, Ukraine and its allies in Europe were stunned by Washington and Moscow's decision to hold peace talks in Saudi Arabia this week. Ukraine has said it will not accept a deal imposed on it without its consent, a move echoed by European leaders, while russia has ruled out giving up territory it has seized.

Kellogg said Europe is unlikely to have a seat at the negotiating table over russia's war against Ukraine.
