Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk stressed that elections in Ukraine will be held only under national legislation and only after the end of martial law in the country.
He announced this on Facebook, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"Ukraine needs bullets, not ballots. When statements are made about the need for elections during a full-scale war, it is worth figuring out: is this a real possibility or another tool to destabilize Ukraine? President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy was elected in democratic elections. Today he leads the struggle for freedom, independence and the lives of Ukrainians," he wrote.
According to him, elections in Ukraine will be held and will be held in accordance with Ukrainian laws.
"The citizens of Ukraine will make the choice. And these will be democratic elections. The rashist enemy cannot and will not dictate anything to us. We will not copy their practices, where the "winner" is known even before the vote, and pseudo-elections are held together with pseudo-referendums - in our case, even under the muzzles of russian machine guns," he added.
The Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada noted that Ukraine does not abandon democracy, but elections are possible only after the end of martial law, which is a direct norm of Ukrainian law.
"Inventing "democracy" under shelling is not democracy, but a spectacle in which the main beneficiary is in the Kremlin," he noted.
At the same time, Stefanchuk expressed full support for President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, US President Donald Trump said that elections should be held in Ukraine, since Volodymyr Zelenskyy allegedly has a very low level of support among citizens.
