At the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, where a russian drone hit on February 14, extinguishing two smoldering fires in the roof insulation continues.
The State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU) has reported this.
"As of 12:00 p.m. on February 18, work is underway to partially open the structures and extinguish two smoldering fires in the roof insulation," the rescuers specified.
It is also known that three groups of divers are working at the Chornobyl nuclear power plant and the situation is constantly being monitored using a UAV with a thermal imager.
The rescuers assured that the radiation background at the industrial site of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant is within normal limits, there is no threat to the population, the situation is under control.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on the night of February 14, a russian strike drone with a high-explosive warhead hit the shelter covering the destroyed power unit No. 4 at the Chornobyl NPP.
As a result of the russian drone strike on the New Safe Confinement (NSC) above the destroyed power unit of the Chornobyl NPP, the integrity of the outer shell of the NSC and the equipment in the crane maintenance garage were damaged.
On February 18, the elimination of the consequences of the russian UAV strike on the Shelter facility continues.
