President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that for the first time, Ukraine sees China's interest in ending the war.
Zelenskyy said this during a video conference with media representatives, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
"It is important for us to talk to the leaders of China, to help put pressure on Putin to end the war. We are seeing, I think, for the first time, China's interest. I think this is mostly due to the fact that all processes are now accelerating. We cannot be against countries, especially countries of the Global South, being interested in helping Ukraine and putting pressure on Russia to end the war," he said.
In particular, he called the meeting between the Head of the Presidential Office Andrii Yermak and Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference important.
"I believe that this is an important meeting and after this meeting, the dialogue can be continued at a different level," he said.
Regarding the possibility of China participating in the peace talks, Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine is for the presence of serious players, but only those who are ready to take responsibility for security guarantees, assistance to Ukraine, stopping russian dictator vladimir putin and investing in the restoration of Ukraine should be at the negotiating table.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, speaking at the Munich Security Conference, Wang Yi said that China hopes that all interested parties will participate in the peace talks at the appropriate time, in particular emphasizing the role of Europe.
