China says Europe's role crucial for peace talks

China believes all parties concerned in the russia-Ukraine conflict should participate in peace talks, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Friday, underlining Europe's role in them after a flurry of US messages on how to end the war, Reuters reported.

Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, Wang said: "We hope that all parties directly involved will participate in the peace talks at the appropriate time."

"China welcomes all efforts towards peace, including any consensus reached by the United States and russia on peace talks," Wang was quoted as saying in a statement by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

He added that, as the war is taking place on European soil, it is "even more necessary for Europe to play its role in the cause of peace, to jointly address the root causes of the crisis, to find a balanced, effective and sustainable security framework, and to achieve long-term peace and stability in Europe."
