A fire continues at the Chornobyl NPP after a hit on the shelter of the destroyed fourth power unit. There is no radiation threat as of the morning of February 15.
This was reported by the State Agency of Ukraine for Exclusion Zone Management on Facebook.
It is noted that extinguishing the fire of the filler of the outer cladding of the arch of the new safe confinement continues. From 10:00 p.m. to 07:00 a.m., five employees of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU) and two units of equipment were involved. As of 07:00 a.m., 40 SESU employees and eight units of equipment were involved.
Technical condition of the new confinement:
- defects in the cladding without continuous destruction up to 200 square meters;
- damage to the internal filler of the cladding;
- there are destructions of bolted connections;
- deformed joints of the structures of the upper part of the confinement.
The radiation condition in the exclusion zone is monitored at 39 points of the automated control system. As of 08:30 a.m., no excesses of the ambient dose equivalent measurement and gamma radiation were recorded.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on Friday, February 14, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported on a strike on the shelter of the fourth power unit of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant. As a result of the attack, the new safe confinement was damaged, and a fire broke out there.
