U.S. President Donald Trump and russian dictator vladimir putin may try to achieve a ceasefire by April 20 (Easter) or by May 9.
The Financial Times reported this, citing Ukrainian and Western high-ranking officials.
According to the newspaper's interlocutors, Trump and putin are considering two dates for a possible ceasefire - by Easter, April 20, and May 9, when celebrations are planned in russia.
"Trump and Putin will probably try to achieve a ceasefire by one of the two upcoming important dates: Easter, which the Orthodox and Catholic churches will celebrate on April 20 this year, or by May 9, when Russia will celebrate the victory of the USSR over Nazi Germany," the material says.
The publication writes that putin wants to gain a sphere of influence in Europe, which he calls a "new security architecture", for which he demands that the occupied territories of Ukraine be left to russia. Moscow also hopes for an easing of sanctions. At the same time, the former senior American official believes that the Trump administration does not take Ukraine's problems seriously, since the special envoy for Ukraine and russia, Keith Kellogg, was not included in the negotiating team with russia.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on February 12, U.S. President Donald Trump spoke with putin and called it "very productive".
After the call to putin, Trump had a conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Recall, Trump plans to hold a personal meeting with russian dictator vladimir putin in Saudi Arabia.
