ICC Prosecutor Khan, who issued arrest warrant for putin, came under US sanctions

International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor Karim Khan has been placed on the US sanctions list. He issued an arrest warrant for russian dictator vladimir putin.

This was reported by Reuters.

The publication's sources note that Karim Khan became the first person to be placed under economic sanctions imposed by US President Donald Trump. The name of the ICC prosecutor appeared in an annex signed by Trump a day earlier, which has not yet been made public.

The sanctions include freezing the American assets of those on the list and banning them and their families from entering the US.

According to the order, US Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent, after consulting with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, must submit a report within 60 days with the names of the individuals against whom sanctions will be imposed.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Karim Khan, as the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, announced on March 1, 2022, the start of an investigation into war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by russia in Ukraine. It was he who filed a motion to issue an arrest warrant for russian dictator vladimir putin and russian plenipotentiary Maria Lvova-Belova in the case of the deportation of Ukrainian children.

Also, on May 20, 2024, Karim Khan requested arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant, and three leaders of the Hamas movement.
