Russia's advance in Ukraine slowed in January 2025 - British intelligence

British intelligence has recorded a slowdown in the territorial advance of the aggressor state of russia in Ukraine, which had accelerated during the previous year. The russians also did not achieve significant progress in January in the Kursk Oblast.

This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom.

"It occupied approximately 320 sq. km compared to approximately 400 sq. km in December 2024. Russia took control of the strongpoint of Velyka Novosilka, but the advance along most of the front line was relatively insignificant," the department said.

According to intelligence, the russian advance accelerated throughout 2024, and in November 2024 more than 700 sq. km were captured, which is one of the fastest rates of advance since the initial stages.

In addition, it is indicated that in the Kursk Oblast, russia achieved minor successes in January 2025. At the same time, the DPRK units that participated in offensive combat operations in the Kursk Oblast temporarily withdrew from the front lines, probably for rest and re-equipment before redeployment.

"This is almost certainly due primarily to the heavy losses they suffered during attacks on positions held by Ukrainian troops," the intelligence added.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in the six months since the start of the operation of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the Kursk Oblast of the aggressor state of russia, the enemy lost about 40,000 people, of which more than 16,000 were killed.
