Six months of operation in russian Kursk Oblast. General Staff sums up

In the six months since the start of the operation of the Defense Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk Oblast of the aggressor state of russia, the enemy has lost about 40,000 people, of which more than 16,000 were killed. The losses of the DPRK contingent amounted to 4,000 people. The Armed Forces of Ukraine also replenished the exchange fund by 909 people.

Thus, the operation of the Defense Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk Oblast began on August 6, 2024 and has been going on for six months - for the first time in 11 years of the Russian-Ukrainian war, hostilities have been transferred to the territory of the russian federation. Ukraine holds hundreds of square kilometers of a "buffer zone" in the russian federation.

"The Kursk offensive operation was aimed at preventing a new enemy offensive in the Sumy and Kharkiv Regions. This operation is still fulfilling this function after 6 months. The operation forced the Russian occupiers to transfer significant resources to the Kursk Oblast, weakening their positions on other front lines," the report says.

In addition, the agency added, russia was forced to ask for help from North Korea, which sent 12,000 of its military personnel to the Kursk Oblast.

According to the General Staff, the total losses of the DPRK contingent amounted to about 4,000 people. That is, out of three conventional North Korean brigades, one was actually destroyed, two lost combat capability. Therefore, at present, units from the DPRK have been withdrawn from the front line.

In total, over six months of active hostilities in the Kursk Oblast, the total losses of russians in manpower amount to approximately 39,900 people, of which about 16,100 were killed. Equipment lost by the enemy as of February 5, 2025:

• 131 tanks,
• 689 armored combat vehicles,
• 386 artillery systems,
• 12 units of MLRS,
• 12 air defense systems,
• 1 aircraft,
• 3 helicopters,
• 931 unmanned aerial vehicles of the operational-tactical level,
• 1,164 units of motor vehicles,
• 34 units of special equipment.

Also during the operation, Ukrainian forces captured 909 russian military personnel, significantly replenishing the exchange fund. This allowed hundreds of Ukrainian defenders who were in russian prisons to return home.

"The Kursk offensive operation remains an example of sudden asymmetric and successful actions of the Defense Forces of Ukraine, which make it possible to inflict significant losses on the superior enemy and seize the initiative on the battlefield," the General Staff emphasized.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy is confident that the operation of the Defense Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk Oblast of the aggressor country russia will play an important role in possible negotiations.
