Energoatom's results in 2024 prove the need to develop nuclear generation.
This is indicated in the company's statement, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
Acting Chairman of the Board of JSC NNEGC Energoatom Petro Kotin, at the request of journalists, published some indicators of the company's performance in 2024.
The statement says that in 2024 the company produced 2% more electricity than in 2023 and 12% more than in 2022, namely 53 billion kWh.
It is noted that the company exceeded the plan and sent 1 billion kWh more electricity to the power system.
During the heating season (from January to March and from October to December), from 5 to almost 6 billion kWh was produced monthly, and during the repair campaign in the warm season - from 3 to 4 billion kWh per month.
In 2024, Energoatom continued to reduce the duration of scheduled repairs of power units and reduced it to 59 days.
The repair campaign was planned in such a way that during the cold season, including now, all 9 power units located in the territory controlled by Ukraine were operating.
In 2024, UAH 116.3 billion (excluding VAT) of its own funds, or 58% of its net income, was allocated to support fixed electricity tariffs for the population.
In 2024, Energoatom paid UAH 28.8 billion in tax payments to budgets of all levels, which is 35% more than in 2023.
“Despite the loss of 45% of nuclear generation due to the occupation of the Zaporizhzhia NPP and constant attacks on energy infrastructure facilities, NNEGC Energoatom continues to operate stably, providing over 60% of the electricity needs of citizens and the economy,” said Acting Chairman of the Board of JSC NNEGC Energoatom Petro Kotin.
Petro Kotin noted that important factors in the Company’s successful work in 2024 were:
– effective management decisions made in previous years, especially regarding the Company’s operating conditions during martial law, safe operation of nuclear reactors, and protection of facilities;
– complete rejection of russian spare parts and nuclear fuel with a corresponding change of suppliers and transition to American nuclear fuel;
– effective cooperation of Energoatom with American companies Westinghouse Electric and Holtec International, with Canadian company Cameco and British Urenco;
– successful operation of the Centralized Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Facility for more than two years, which allowed the Company to save more than USD 200 million and recoup the cost of building the Centralized Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Facility.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in 2023 nuclear power plants (NPPs) generated 52.409 billion kWh of electricity, which is 101.6% more than the planned target.
In March 2024, Energoatom announced that it plans to reduce the time of repair work at NPP power units in 2024.
