Trump administration split over Ukraine – NBC News

Trump's advisers and cabinet members are divided over how much pressure should be applied to russian dictator vladimir putin to force him to resign, NBC News reported on Wednesday, February 5, citing former American and Ukrainian officials and sources close to the Ukrainian government.

According to the source, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and U.S. President Donald Trump's special envoy for Ukraine and russia Keith Kellogg want to use leverage to force putin to resign. However, other officials are in favor of cutting financial aid to Ukraine as a way to force the country to end the conflict quickly. Critics of such an approach say that this would effectively disarm Ukraine and would mean surrender to russia.

"The president will use, as necessary, all levers of American strength to enable a conclusion to the carnage of the past three years," Kellogg told NBC News.

According to him, President Trump's security team is "in sync."

On February 2, Kellogg said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had confirmed his willingness to make territorial concessions during possible talks with russian dictator vladimir putin.

On February 4, Kellogg said that he was going to discuss Ukraine and ending the war at the Munich Security Conference in February.
