UK allocates GBP 55 million aid package to Ukraine: what funds are for

During a visit to Kyiv today, February 5, the Prime Minister of the UK, David Lammy, announced the allocation of a new support package to Ukraine totaling GBP 55 million.

The press service of the UK government has reported this.

"New UK support totalling £55m will boost resilience and growth in the UK and Ukraine," the message says.

The funds will be distributed as follows:

  1. The UK is providing GBP 3 million for the supply of Ukrainian grain and other food products to Syria.
  2. GBP 17 million for innovative energy projects to support the restoration and sustainable development of Ukraine's energy system.
  3. To support Ukraine’s private sector and the resilience of small and medium-sized businesses, the new Economic Recovery Programme will receive an additional GBP 10 million in funding to help restore, rebuild and reform the Ukrainian economy for the future.
  4. A further GBP 25 million from the UK will support Ukraine in strengthening more inclusive, effective and efficient social systems and services.

“Our support for Ukraine remains unbreakable. We are determined to put Ukraine in the strongest possible position, both in its fight against Russia and beyond, with our long-term relationship cemented by the 100 Year Partnership,” said UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the Verkhovna Rada ratified an agreement between the governments of Ukraine and the UK on official credit support for the development of the state’s defense capabilities.
