A member of the Verkhovna Rada from the Servant of the People faction, chairman of the parliamentary committee on finance, tax and customs policy Danylo Hetmantsev considers the weakening of the hryvnia by 11% to UAH 45 per USD 1 at the exchange rate possible.
He said this in an interview with the Ukrainian News agency.
"We have a balanced policy of the National Bank, which reacts quite harshly to any challenges in this direction. There will definitely be no currency crisis. Even if the government forecast for 2025 – UAH 45 UAH per USD 1 - is realized, then there is no shock and catastrophe in this. Let me remind you that a country at war and having a "minus" 11% depreciation of the exchange rate in such conditions is absolutely normal. Moreover, it even supports our exports. I do not see any catastrophe in this," he said.
Hetmantsev does not predict sharp jumps in the hryvnia exchange rate in 2025.
According to him, significant gold and foreign exchange reserves, foreign aid, and the balanced policy of the National Bank guarantee the absence of a currency crisis.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the National Bank has introduced managed exchange rate flexibility from October 3, 2023.
