China building the world’s largest military command center, 10 times larger than Pentagon - FT

The Chinese military is building a vast complex in the west of Beijing that US intelligence says will serve as a wartime command center much larger than the Pentagon, the Financial Times reported on Friday, citing current and former US government officials.

According to US intelligence estimates, the command center will house large and strong bunkers to protect against even a nuclear threat. According to the FT, the main construction began in mid-2024, and some intelligence analysts have dubbed the project “Beijing Military City.”

"Nearly 10 times the size of the Pentagon, it fits Xi Jinping's ambitions to outdo the United States. This fortress serves only one purpose, which is to act as a doomsday bunker for China's increasingly capable military," the report says.

Several current and former US officials said the intelligence community is closely monitoring the facility, which would become the world's largest military command center.

Dennis Wilder, a former head of China analysis at the CIA, said that if built, the new advanced underground bunker for military leadership would signal Beijing's intention to create not only a world-class conventional military force, but also potentially a readiness for nuclear war.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, US President Donald Trump wants to discuss reducing nuclear weapons stockpiles with China and russia.

And in November 2024, the US Department of Defense announced its intention to change its nuclear deterrence strategy.

Recall that in July 2024, the US declassified information about its nuclear arsenal and named the number of nuclear warheads.
