The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovakia summoned the Ukrainian Ambassador in connection with Kyiv's statements that Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was poisoned by russian propaganda.
The Slovak publication Dennik N reported this with reference to the press service of the Slovak Foreign Ministry.
According to the publication, the Ministry summoned Ukrainian Ambassador Myroslav Kastran and conveyed to him a "strong protest" over the statements from Ukraine.
Earlier this week, Fico accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of interfering in Slovakia's affairs. According to him, Kyiv was allegedly involved in organizing large-scale anti-government protests that took place across the country on January 24.
Fico said that the protesters were allegedly deceived by the organizers, and a third of the demonstrators were allegedly Ukrainians.
Ukraine has rejected Fico's claims of involvement in anti-government protests. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry wrote that "Fico resorted to searching for enemies and found them in Ukraine."
Kyiv also stated that Fico is trying to shift responsibility for his own failures in domestic politics onto foreign states and their leaders. He was suggested to "look in the mirror."
It is likely that this statement by the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry was the reason why the Ukrainian Ambassador in Bratislava was summoned to the country's foreign ministry.
The Ukrainian Embassy in Slovakia has not yet commented on this information.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also has not yet commented on this situation.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in late December 2024, Fico threatened to stop electricity supplies to Ukraine if Kyiv decides to stop the transit of russian gas.
Recall that from January 1, 2025, the Ukrainian gas transportation system stopped the transit of gas from russia to Europe, as the relevant contract expired. Later, Fico stated that Slovakia would limit support for Ukrainian refugees if Kyiv did not agree to continue the transit of russian gas.
