US suspends military aid to Ukraine, – Politico

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has issued an order suspending spending on most foreign aid programs for 90 days. The order concerns military aid to Ukraine.

Politico reported this on Friday, January 24, citing former and current State Department officials and the text of the document.

Rubio's order requires all diplomatic and consular institutions to suspend funding for most current foreign aid programs for 90 days, Politico writes. The order takes effect immediately.

"One current State Department official, plus two former Biden administration officials, said the pause appears to stop aid to key allies such as Ukraine, Jordan and Taiwan," the material says.

The State Department is expected to prepare a report within 85 days of the publication of the instructions on which foreign aid programs to continue and which to end.

However, Voice of America correspondent Ostap Yarysh refutes the information about the suspension of aid to Ukraine on his X-account.

"The Pentagon tells me the opposite - that this decree does not apply to military support. I do not know what exactly POLITICO means. I suspect that it may be about the FMF program, but the funds allocated for supporting Ukraine have been spent a long time ago," wrote Yarysh.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on January 24, the U.S. Department of Defense stated that U.S. President Donald Trump's decree on the suspension of assistance to foreign countries for three months does not apply to military support for Ukraine.
