In 2024, 830 MW of mainly gas generation was added, in 2025 the task was to put into operation almost 900 MW of capacity of distributed generation facilities.
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced this on the Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
"In 2024, 233 generation plants with an installed capacity of over 830 MW were connected. Mostly we are talking about gas generation, namely gas turbine, gas piston and cogeneration plants. This year, the Ministry of Energy and other responsible departments are tasked with putting into operation almost 900 MW of capacity of distributed generation facilities," he said.
Shmyhal added that repairs and reconstruction are also ongoing. According to him, in total, about 4 GW of thermal and hydropower capacity was restored in 2024, and about 3 GW more are planned to be restored this year.
He noted that during martial law, the government has decided that the import of energy equipment is VAT-free, in particular, this concerns equipment necessary for the restoration, repairs and creation of new distributed generation facilities.
The Prime Minister also noted that Ukraine has already crossed the equator of winter and the heating season, despite the constant attacks of the aggressor country russia, the Ukrainian energy system remains intact and operates stably.
He also emphasized that for this heating season, the tariffs for heat and electricity remain unchanged.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in June 2024, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said at the International Conference on the Restoration of Ukraine in Berlin (Germany) that Ukraine intends to build 1 GW of flexible gas generation in 2024 and another 4 GW in the coming years.
