U.S. President Donald Trump will not stop aid to Ukraine in the war.
Oleksandr Merezhko, a Member of the Verkhovna Rada from the Servant of the People faction, chairman of the parliamentary committee on foreign policy and interparliamentary cooperation, has stated this in an interview with the Ukrainian News agency.
"I do not believe in the worst case scenario, that is, in the fact that there will be a complete stop (of the U.S. aid to Ukraine), because it will cause a huge scandal. Let's not forget that the United States is a democratic country. The system of "checks and balances" is in effect. There is a strong opposition there, now it is the Democratic Party. In two years, midterm elections to the Senate and the House of Representatives. Based on this, Trump will not stop supporting Ukraine," he is convinced.
Merezhko predicts the possibility of inertia in Trump continuing the policy of former U.S. President Joe Biden regarding aid to Ukraine.
According to the MP, Trump will not stop providing weapons in order to force Ukraine to make peace, which is not beneficial to Ukraine.
"The Trump administration could theoretically try to do this. But again, it's a question of how it will look in the eyes of Europe, the world, and democratic countries. When you force a victim of aggression to make concessions to a maniac who kills this victim, it looks worse than the Munich Agreement of 1938. Trump will not do this. I am sure that he will not do this," Merezhko noted about the possibility of the United States stopping the supply of American weapons.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the decree on the temporary suspension of all U.S. foreign aid programs, signed by U.S. President Donald Trump, does not apply to current aid to Ukraine.
