So that there are even more people without weapons: Zelenskyy again rejects lowering draft age

Ukraine does not intend to lower the mobilization age and draft men under 25 into the army. This will lead to even more soldiers without the necessary weapons at the front.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this in an interview with Bloomberg editor-in-chief John Micklethwait.

"Why mobilize even more young people. So that there are even more people without weapons?" Zelenskyy said when Micklethwait asked him about the mobilization of young men.

Bloomberg recalled that in recent months the United States has been calling on Ukraine to lower the mobilization age. American officials are dissatisfied that Kyiv is not involving young people who can supposedly fight more effectively.

At the same time, the Ukrainian authorities insist that there is no point in mobilizing even more people, since the existing army is experiencing a shortage of weapons and ammunition.

As a reminder, in July 2024, President Zelenskyy stated that there are 14 brigade-level units in the reserve of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. They cannot participate in combat operations due to insufficient weapons.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on January 13, US President's National Security Advisor Mike Waltz stated that Ukraine needs to lower the mobilization age to 18 years.

And recently, the head of the National Police of Ukraine, Ivan Vyhovskyi, said in an interview with Ukrainian News Agency that he does not rule out a gradual reduction in the conscription age.
