EU and NATO must strengthen as Ukraine fights russia - EU Commissioner Kubilius

Every day that Ukraine fights the aggressor russia is a day when the European Union and the North Atlantic Alliance can become stronger and strengthen their defense capabilities.

This was stated by EU Commissioner for Defense and Space Andrius Kubilius during a speech at the annual conference of the European Defense Agency.

Kubilius stressed that the Allies can still deter russian aggression in Europe by providing military support to Ukraine, supporting Ukraine's industry and integrating its defense industry with the EU.

"Every missile, every drone shot down by Ukraine is one that will not threaten Europe, one that will not threaten NATO. Every day that Ukraine fights is a day that the European Union and NATO can become stronger. Secondly, we can deter aggression by making sure that the military forces of our EU member states have the necessary weapons," the European Commissioner stressed.

According to him, EU countries should work to increase production capacities in Europe and strengthen air defense, cyberspace, military mobility, the defense capability of the northeastern border and improve space technologies, as well as make all weapons systems compatible.

"Ukraine is now learning the price of fragmentation on the battlefield. Long delays in deliveries. Long delays in repairs. This can cost territory. This can cost lives," Kubilius said.

The European Commissioner believes that the EU can outarm russia to deter aggression, prevent war and ensure peace.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on January 15, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine currently produces 33-34% of its weapons needs.

On January 19, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said that the aggressor country of russia can be forced to make a just peace by providing Ukraine with a sufficient amount of weapons and by imposing strict sanctions against the russian federation.

According to Western media, russia continues to receive thousands of Western rifles and millions of cartridges through neighboring countries despite many years of sanctions.
