Trump urges putin to make deal to end war in Ukraine

US President Donald Trump urged vladimir putin, the leader of russia, to make a deal to end the war in Ukraine. Trump stressed that the continuation of this conflict is causing russia significant economic and human losses, which negatively affects its condition.

This was reported by CNN, citing Trump's statements made during his conversation with reporters at the White House.

“He should make a deal. I think he is destroying russia by not making a deal,” Trump said.

The President noted that russia is facing serious economic difficulties, such as inflation, which has reached about 10%. He added: “I think russia is going to have big problems. Look at their economy. Look at their inflation.”

Trump also announced his plans to meet with putin to discuss possible ways to end the war. According to him, the details of such a meeting are currently being agreed: “It could be very soon. The war between Ukraine and russia should never have started.”

Referring to putin, Trump said, “He can’t be happy. He’s not doing very well. I mean, he’s struggling… he’s not looking very good… I think he would be very happy to end this war.”

Trump also said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was also keen to make a deal, but only if it would provide a lasting end to the war and be acceptable to Ukraine.

“Zelenskyy wants to make a deal. I don’t know if putin wants to. Maybe not. I don’t know,” Trump said.

Earlier during his campaign, Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance expressed skepticism about continued U.S. support for Ukraine, saying that Ukraine should agree to a ceasefire with russia, even if it meant losing some of its territory.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on December 24, Ukraine received the first USD 1 billion from the United States, secured by proceeds from frozen assets of the aggressor country, russia.

On December 13, CNN, citing a senior Biden administration official, stated that the administration is working to increase arms supplies to Ukraine in the last days of his tenure.

On December 13, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced that the United States will provide Ukraine with a new package of weapons and equipment worth USD 500 million.
