Putin declares readiness for negotiations with US. ISW names condition

The president of the aggressor country russia, vladimir putin, expressed his readiness for negotiations with the United States regarding the war in Ukraine, but put forward an ultimatum - the complete surrender of Ukraine.

According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), on January 20, putin held a meeting of the russian Security Council. Together with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, he declared russia's readiness for peace negotiations with the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump.

Putin emphasized that any settlement of the conflict should be based on the fulfillment of the demands put forward by russia in late 2021 - early 2022.

Russian senior officials, including putin and Lavrov, have repeatedly emphasized that:

  • Ukraine must remain "neutral" and not join NATO;
  • The Ukrainian army must be significantly reduced;
  • The Ukrainian government should be removed from power.

Putin also claimed that back in 2021, then-U.S. President Joe Biden had proposed postponing Ukraine's accession to NATO for 10-15 years. However, even this, according to putin, could not prevent "the inevitable invasion of russia due to NATO's actions."

This statement by putin is another attempt to put pressure on the international community and demonstrates his unwillingness to compromise.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on January 16, the kremlin said that russian dictator putin does not intend to be the first to call Trump after he officially becomes U.S. President.

Meanwhile, the kremlin complained that russian representatives were not invited to Trump's inauguration.
