Reserve+ to resume deferrals for students and postgraduate students from January 22 – Defense Ministry

The Reserve+ application will resume the service for obtaining a deferral from mobilization for students and postgraduate students from January 22.

Deputy Minister of Defense for Digitalization Kateryna Chornohorenko announced this on her page on Facebook, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"Immediately after the resumption and successful testing of the exchange with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, we plan to resume deferrals for students and postgraduate students, as we have received hundreds of requests to renew the service," the message says.

The military registration of students in Ukraine is regulated by the law on mobilization, adopted in May 2024.

According to the document, male students who are receiving their first higher education and studying full-time or dual-track can receive a deferral from service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

All postgraduate students, doctoral students and assistant trainees are also exempted from the draft.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, a new procedure for the booking from mobilization to the army has been in effect since December 1, 2024.

All critical enterprises must confirm their status for the booking of their employees from mobilization to the army by February 28, 2025.

On December 24, the Cabinet of Ministers extended the term of the current bookings for a month due to a cyberattack on state registers.

U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said that the shortage of human resources in the Ukrainian army remains a serious problem, despite significant military assistance from the West. He stressed that the mobilization age in Ukraine must be lowered due to the lack of manpower in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The U.S. calls on Ukraine to lower the mobilization age to 18 years.
