UN plans to raise USD 2.6 billion to help Ukrainians in 2025

The United Nations (UN) plans to raise over USD 2.6 billion to help Ukrainians in 2025.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced this on the Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"The UN plans to raise over USD 2.6 billion to help Ukrainians in 2025. This is provided for in a plan approved by the organization. We discussed its implementation with the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher, and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi," he said.

This is the UN Ukraine Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan for 2025. Shmyhal discussed existing and new support programs with UN representatives.

In particular, he drew attention to such priority projects for Ukraine as providing drinking water to communities in the South of Ukraine, demining, alternative sources of heat and energy, housing restoration and construction of shelters, and business development programs.

"We expect that all assistance programs for Ukrainians will be continued, and we also count on a significant contribution from the UN to humanitarian demining of Ukraine this year, in particular by launching new programs and projects," the Prime Minister noted.

Shmyhal noted that the UN has planned to attract USD 492 million for humanitarian programs aimed at supporting displaced people and getting through the winter period.

According to him, in 2024, 8.5 million Ukrainians were covered by various types of assistance from the UN.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, since February 2022, the UN has officially recorded the deaths of more than 12,300 people in Ukraine as a result of russian aggression, as well as more than 27,800 wounded.
