UN accuses russia of killing at least 12,300 civilians in Ukraine

Since February 2022, the United Nations has officially recorded the deaths of more than 12,300 people in Ukraine as a result of russian aggression, as well as more than 27,800 wounded.

This was stated by the UN Under-Secretary-General for Disarmament Affairs Izumi Nakamitsu during a meeting of the UN Security Council on December 20.

According to her, the greatest losses among the civilian population were caused by russia's use of long-range weapons. In November, such attacks caused about 42% of the deaths and injuries - this is significantly more than in previous months.

In addition, Nakamitsu cited data from the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine for 2024. From January 1 to November 30, 341 civilians were killed and 1,803 people were injured as a result of the use of aerial bombs. These figures are three and six times higher than last year's figures.
